GOLD STAR POLICIES

Policies and Guidelines at GSDS

HOW TO PREPARE FOR CLASS -

  • Bring a hungry dog to class, don’t feed a meal right before training. This will make your dog more motivated to work for your training rewards.

  • Bring a variety of treats to class, ranging in different value. Have something lower value, like kibble or cheese, and something higher value, like hot dogs or chicken. Experiment and find out what your dog likes the most. Soft treats work better than hard treats, so the dog can quickly eat them without much chewing.

  • Bring your dog on a 6ft leash. Do not use a retractable flexi leash in class.

  • Bring a bed or mat for your dog to lay on.

  • Bring something for your dog to chew on during downtime, like a bully stick or stuffed kong.

  • Give your dog time to potty outside before class and pay attention to signs during class that they may need to go outside. If an accident happens inside, use proper cleaning supplies to thoroughly clean the area.

  • Wear clothes and shoes that are easy to move in. During classes you may be moving quickly and working on the ground at your dog’s level.

  • Bring something to take notes. Each class will have homework and training a few minutes each day will be necessary to see progress in your dog.
